The New Standard is crafted with the classic British tradition in mind, as it is intended for students and therefore, sticks closer to the basics. Other current cornets by Besson include the 924G Sovereign Soprano, which plays at E♭, and the 120 New Standard Student, which is another B♭cornet, both of which weight a light 2lb, 2oz (950g). These features are typical of the Besson Prestige series. ![]() Both cornets have two lever-style forged waterkeys, designed so that nothing pulls out and gets lost, and to help drain away any leftover fluids after playing. The 928G valves are accompanied by a 1st slide trigger also, adding extra regulation to notes played. ![]() Both the 2028 and then 928G of the series come with a 3rd valve slide trigger, to help control the notes played and to keep in tune. The prestige series of cornets are typically played in B♭, and weigh around 2lbs 9oz (1162g) on average. Each cornet Besson designs now and has designed in the past are inspired by the music played by famous artists that use their brand, such as Alexis Demailly, the principal cornet at "Opera de Paris" and Dewi Griffiths at of the "Tredeger Band". ![]() Founded in 1837, Besson has been producing high-quality cornets, and other brass instruments, for almost 200 years.
